Facts about our job

  • Under our original name of the National Heart Research Fund - we funded six of the first eight successful UK heart transplants.
  • In the last 10 years we have provided over £10.2m for pioneering research projects in hospitals and universities across the UK.
  • Coronary heart disease is Britain's biggest single killer with around 75,000 people dying each year from it. It is not a condition that is confined to the very elderly and affects people across the age spectrum.

Heart Research UK is a national charity that’s been helping hearts since 1967. Over the last forty nine years we have funded ground-breaking medical research and work into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. This includes many of the ground-breaking treatments and techniques that we now take for granted, such as heart transplants, the development of heart valves, imaging equipment and many other everyday procedures. We fund research in hospitals and universities, as well as giving Healthy Heart Grants to community projects that help people to live healthier lifestyles.

Our income comes from people like you, who support us through individual donations, payroll giving, corporate sponsorship, fundraising activities, gifts in lieu of flowers and legacies. Each year, more than half of our income comes from people who are kind enough to remember us in their will. Please help us in our pioneering fight against heart disease and help more people to live healthier, happier, longer lives.
