Independent Age

Independent Age

Our vision: A society where older people can live the lives they aspire to and contribute actively to their communities. Our mission: To enable older people to stay independent and live well with dignity, choice and control.

Facts about our job

  • We provide 28,000 friendly calls and visits to lonely older people annually.
  • Each year we distribute over 100,000 information resources on a number of different issues affecting older people.
  • Every year our trained expert advisors answer over 9,000 enquires through the Independent Age Helpline.

Whatever happens as we get older, we all want to remain independent and live life on our own terms. That’s why, as well as offering regular friendly contact and a strong campaigning voice, Independent Age can provide older people and their families with clear, free and impartial advice on the issues that matter: care and support, money and benefits, health and mobility. A charity founded over 150 years ago, we’re independent so older people can be.

Our advice and information services are completely impartial. We do not sell products or services and we do not receive a payment from any organisation for recommending that organisation’s product or service.

We want the UK to be the best place to grow older and we have ambitious targets to increase the number of older people we help and the difference we make. We receive no state funding and rely on income from individuals, trusts and other sources to continue providing our services to hundreds of thousands of older people in need.
