Shelter

Shelter

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.

Facts about our job

  • 128,000 children are currently homeless in Great Britain
  • 68,500 people were helped by Shelter through our services in England and Scotland in 2016/17
  • 60% of people who called Shelter’s helpline kept, or were able to better keep, their homes. This equates to 11,600 people who say this change was because of the helpline.

Shelter is the UK’s leading housing and homelessness charity.  Since 1966, we’ve fought tirelessly to give people a voice, and we help people in need with our expert advice and support.

Last year, we gave information, support and advice to millions of people facing homelessness or experiencing housing issues. And we won’t stop until there’s a safe, secure and affordable home for everyone.
